Medieval Hedgehogs

Hedgehogs make fairly frequent appearances in Medieval Bestiaries. They are usually found at harvest time looking for ripe fruit. Their technique is refined and often involves climbing a tree to shake down the fruit, which they then roll in, securing it on their prickles so they can scoff it on the move. These two light relief carvings (180mm x 180mm) have gilded fruit and are finished in gouache. They are modelled on two illuminated manuscripts in the British Library. I had a little help with the gilding.

Xmouse Pudding

This little carving is 10cm x 10cm x 8cm, finished in gesso, gouache, gilt and aluminum leaf. The mouse fur showcases the original limewood. It's my own design, thought up on a dog walk.

Christmas Present

I was only able to complete the City and Guilds Graduate Diploma thanks to my father-in-law's generous hospitality. Here is the Bassett Hound he requested for someone special, a little carving carved with HUGE thanks!!! The hound is finished in acrylic paint.
